The Town of Ledyard recently passed an ordinance permitting archery hunting by Ledyard residents for deer on two Town-owned properties:
• 1025 Colonel Ledyard Highway (approximately 100 acres of fields and woods, also known as the Clark Farm)
• 332 Colonel Ledyard Highway (approximately 100 acres of woods, ponds and wetlands, access only via Paint Mill Drive off Pumpkin Hill Road)
Hunting will be by permission only during the CT Private Land Season (starts Sept 15). Bowhunters who have passed a CT Bowhunting Safety course may apply by lottery (only 12 permits will be issued). Applications may be obtained from the Town Clerk’s office, and must be completed and received by 12:00PM on July 18. The lottery drawing will be held on July 19th and applicants need not be present to win. Additional rules and regulations apply and are included with the application form. Applicants winning the lottery must also pass a qualifications test administered by the Town to prove minimum competency with a compound bow (no crossbows or firearms allowed). Sunday hunting will not be permitted, and Saturday hunting will end at 10:00 am.
