BERLIN, Conn. (Feb. 6, 2017) – Eversource customers in
Connecticut saved $55 million in energy costs in 2016 while significantlyreducing their energy use. Among those residents who saved was John
Marquis of Manchester, one of 10,000 customers who took advantage of the HomeEnergy Solutions assessment last year.
“During the assessment at my home, I learned that our recessed lighting was the
source of great energy loss – air was just rushing in through the canisters inthe ceiling,” said Marquis. “The technicians replaced those lights with
LED lighting and sealed the canisters to prevent heat loss. Now, there’snot even a slight draft coming from them. In the first month, we saw a $50
savings on our electric bill over the same time period last year. That, to us,is huge.”
In 2016, energy efficiency programs through Eversource and Energize CT helped
customers save more than 338 million kilowatt-hours of electricity, which isenough to power more than 40,000 homes for a year; and nearly 3 million CCF
(centum cubic feet) of natural gas, enough to supply 3,750 homes for a year.
“Simple changes, like caulking windows or weather stripping doors, can add upto major savings for customers,” said Enoch Lenge, Eversource’s Energy
Efficiency spokesman. “In addition to saving money and helping the environment, energy efficiency programs are an economic development engine for the state.
The programs create jobs and make Connecticut a better place to live.”
Installing energy-efficient lighting, signing up for home energy assessments, and upgrading to energy-efficient heating, cooling and water heating systems
helped customers save energy and cut down on energy costs. Incentives andrebates offered through the Energize CT Home Energy Solutions program provided
additional savings.
These programs generated about 12,000 Connecticut jobs related to energyefficiency in 2016. Aiello Home Services based in Windsor Locks is one of
the companies that saw the job growth first hand.
“Thanks to Energize CT, we are not just looking at the HVAC, plumbing orelectrical systems separately, we are now looking at the entire home as a
complete unit,” said Timothy Fabuien, Home Energy Manager at Aiello. “Thisnew approach has allowed us to grow as a company, add employees within each
trade and create a new Home Energy Solutions Department.”
