Trespassing Arrest
On July 1, 2013 at approximately 11:08 a.m. the Ledyard Police Department was contacted by the Dow Chemical Corporation on Route 12 in Gales Ferry regarding a male who was wearing camouflage clothing walking along the railroad tracks towards their facility. When the male was located by Officers from the Ledyard Police Department, he ran into the wooded area near River Drive in Gales Ferry.
After a short time in the woods the male was taken into custody without incident. Francisco E Ramirez DOB 02/18/1991 of 7 Barry Drive in Gales Ferry was arrested and charged with Criminal Trespass, Breach of Peace, and Possession of a Dangerous Weapon. He is being held on $5,000 bond and will be presented at GA 10 in New London.
Attempted Burglary
On July 1, 2013 at approximately 0123 hours the Ledyard Police Department received a report that an individual had entered a home on Windward Lane in Ledyard through an unlocked door. The individual, who was described as a larger white male, fled when the homeowner yelled to him. A search of the surrounding area, along with a track utilizing a Ledyard Police K9 was conducted but Police were unable to locate the individual. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Ledyard Police Department at 860-464-6400.
Attempted Burglary Arrest
On July 11, 2013 at approximately 2100 hours the Ledyard Police Department received a 911 call from a resident of the highland section of Town indicating that someone had just kicked his front door in what appeared to be an attempt to gain entry, and that person then fled. Officers from the Ledyard Police Department responded and requested the assistance of a Stonington Police Department K9 unit.
A track was conducted utilizing the K9 which led to another highlands residence. Once at that location, investigation led to the arrest of a 14 year old male for the charge(s) of Attempted Burglary 2nd Degree, Breach of Peace, and Criminal Mischief. While investigating the initial complaint it was also learned that the same accused attempted to gain entry to another home in the same manner.
Arrest for Explosives & Fireworks
On Saturday July 13, 2013 at approximately 10:15 p.m. an Officer from the Ledyard Police Department on routine patrol located a vehicle parked in a hiking area off of Avery Hill Road in Ledyard. When contact was made with the vehicle, the Officer discovered a small amount of explosive material. Subsequent investigation led Officers to a storage facility in the Gales Ferry section of Ledyard where a larger amount of materials were discovered. As a result of this discovery, Troopers with the Connecticut State Police Emergency Services Unit responded and secured the materials. Investigation conducted by the Ledyard Police Department and Naval Criminal Investigative Service resulted in the following charges.
John Mallow DOB 04/23/1991 of the Submarine Base in Groton was charged with possession of explosives, manufacture of bombs, and possession of fireworks, and held on a $50,000 bond. Gary Braun DOB 05/25/1994 of the Submarine Base in Groton was charged with possession of explosives and possession of fireworks, and held on a $10,000 bond. Both were scheduled to appear on July 15, 2013 at GA 10 in New London.
