School Bus Accident
On February 4, 2011 at 0752 hours the Ledyard Police Department was advised of a motor vehicle accident involving an occupied school bus and a vehicle having occurred on Overlook Road in the Gales Ferry section of Ledyard. The Ledyard Police Department, Gales Ferry Fire Company, Ledyard Fire Department, and the Poquetanuck Ambulance responded. No injuries occurred as a result of this accident and no one was transported to the hospital.

Investigation revealed that a private vehicle and a school bus attempted to pass each other in opposite directions on Overlook Road, causing them to strike. The impact caused minor damage to the vehicle and no visible damage to the bus.

The bus, owned by Student Transportation of America of 1350 Baldwin Hill Road in Gales Ferry was operated by Kira Flint DOB 05-29-68 of 75 Meetinghouse Lane in Ledyard. The vehicle was a 1999 Nissan Altima owned by Maureen Brawner of 37 Overlook Drive in Gales Ferry, and operated by Emily Brawner DOB 10-21-91 also of 37 Overlook Drive.

Child injured by vehicle
On February 8, 2011 at 1813 hours the Ledyard Police Department, Gales Ferry Fire Company, Ledyard Volunteer Emergency Squad and Lawrence and Memorial Paramedics responded to the area of Long Cove Road near Washington Drive for a child that had been struck by a motor vehicle. As a result a 9-year old child was transported to the Lawrence and Memorial Hospital, and later transferred to Yale New Haven Hospital, for the treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Investigation by the Ledyard Police Department found that the vehicle, which was parked in the driveway of the home at 877 Long Cove Road, rolled backwards striking the child while he exited the vehicle. The accident remains under investigation by the Ledyard Police Department.

Larceny Arrest
On January 14, 2011 the Ledyard Police Department was contacted by the management of the Starwood Market at 733 Colonel Ledyard Highway in Ledyard and advised that a shoplifting had just occurred involving approximately $200 worth of items. The management indicated that the individual involved had fled in a vehicle with out of state plates. Subsequent investigation by the Ledyard Police Department led to the issuance of an arrest warrant in this case. On February 14, 2011 Darlene W. Kripps DOB 07/29/1964 of 27 Norwich Avenue Apartment #6 Norwich, Connecticut turned herself in to police upon learning a warrant had been issued for her arrest. She was charged with Larceny 6th Degree and was presented at GA 10 New London for arraignment.

Arrest in Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident
On June 23, 2010 at approximately 0149 hours a two vehicle head on accident occurred on Route 12, approximately 3/10 of a mile north of the Groton Town line, in the Gales Ferry section of Ledyard. This accident resulted in fatal injuries to Romina Bascoli DOB 04/03/1979 of Chile, a passenger in a vehicle operated by James Munsie DOB 12/05/1987 of Groton. The accident also resulted in injury to the operator of the 2nd vehicle.

After investigation by the Ledyard Police Department, an arrest warrant was issued for Munsie. On February 16, 2011 he turned himself in to Police and charged with the following.
  • Manslaughter with a motor vehicle while intoxicated
  • Operation of a motor vehicle while under the influence of liquor
  • Failure to drive right
Munsie was processed and released on a $50,000 bond with a court date of March 2, 2011 at GA 10 New London.

Structure Fire
On February 28, 2011 at approximately 1637 hours the Ledyard Police Department received the report of a structure fire with an individual trapped inside at #4 Autumn Way in Ledyard. The Ledyard Police Department, Ledyard Fire Department #1, Gales Ferry Fire Company, Old Mystic Fire Department, U.S. Submarine Base Fire Department, Mystic River Ambulance, and Lawrence and Memorial Hospital Paramedics responded.

On arrival Police and Fire Fighters found that a 17-year old was trapped inside a room in the basement portion of the home which on fire. Firefighters from the Ledyard and Gales Ferry Fire Company entered and effected the rescue of the youth, while also knocking down the main body of fire. The youth was transported to the Lawrence and Memorial Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation injuries.

The fire remains under investigation by the Ledyard Fire Marshal's Office and the Ledyard Police Department Detective Division.

Sale of Narcotics Arrest
On March 3, 2011, the Connecticut State Police Statewide Narcotic Task Force - East Field Office after a lengthy investigation executed a narcotic related search warrant at 29 Ledgewood Road, Ledyard, Connecticut. This investigation involved several controlled purchases of heroin from the below listed accused who were identified as working in concert with each other. Arrest warrants were issued by the New London Superior Court as a result of this investigation. Member from Troop E, Montville, Troop D, Danielson, the Ledyard Police Department and the Stonington Police Department all assisted with this operation.

Larceny Arrest
In February of 2011 the Ledyard Police Department initiated a criminal investigation into numerous items being discovered missing from a residence on Parkwood Drive in Gales Ferry. As a result of this extensive investigation, an arrest warrant application was prepared and submitted to GA 10 in New London. On March 16, 2011 the accused, Christopher Kroll Jr DOB 06-09-1979 of 120 Gallup Hill Road Ledyard, Connecticut, was arrested and charged with Larceny 6th Degree and False Statement 2nd Degree. Kroll was processed and released on a $500 bond with a court date of 03-30-2011 at GA 10 New London.
