Vandalism Arrests
On March 25, 2009, the Ledyard Police Department arrested 4 individuals involved in a spree in which multiple mailboxes were damaged. The arrests are a result of investigative work of the Ledyard Police Department Patrol Division, along with the assistance of concerned citizens in the community. The following were arrested shortly after midnight and charged with criminal mischief in the 3rd degree: Jesse D. Burton, 19, 40 Christy Hill Road in Gales Ferry; Bradley O’Neil Straight, 19, Submarine Base, Groton; Skyler L. Heckler, 21, Submarine Base, Groton; and Stephanie A. LeBlanc, 19, 482 Plain Hill Road, Norwich.The Ledyard Police Department appreciates the assistance of witnesses in the community and encourages those with information regarding criminal activity to call 860-464-6400.

Vehicle Fire
The cause of a fire that engulfed a minivan, burned a passerby and slowed traffic flow for 2 hours along Route 12 Tuesday night remains under investigation.

The Gales Ferry Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle fire around 8:15 p.m. on Route 12 by North Glenwoods Road. Firefighters found a burning minivan parked on the shoulder with its driver and a couple who stopped to help her standing a short distance away.

A man suffered 2nd-degree burns to his right palm and was transported by Ledyard Ambulance to The William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich.

Route 12 was closed in that area for about a half hour.
