Armed Standoff / Home Invasion
On February 7, 2009, at approximately 0001 hours, the Ledyard Emergency Communications Center received a call from a 3rd party reporting that she had just spoken to her friend, who stated her former boyfriend had broken into her residence at 21 Michael Lane and was threatening her with a rifle. Ledyard Police Officers and Troopers from Troop E responded to the residence. Ledyard Police Officers safely extracted the victim from the residence, and officers set up a command post and a perimeter to contain the situation. Norwich Police and Groton Town Police sent officers to assist. Also, State Troopers from Troop F in Westbrook, Troop D in Danielson, and Troop K in Colchester responded to assist. Neighbors were notified of the situation and were placed in safe locations. The Connecticut State Police Tactical Unit responded to the scene and established communication with Morgan, who surrendered himself without further incident. Three rifles were recovered from inside the residence. The female victim was uninjured in this incident. The accused, Chad Morgan is a convicted felon. Morgan (date of brith May 19, 1975) of 536 Shewville Road in Ledyard was charged with home invasion, threatening in the 2nd degree, criminal use of a firearm, and criminal possession of a firearm and was held on a $250,000 cash bond at Troop E. He will be presented in court at GA-10 in New London on Monday, February 9, 2009.

Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident
On February 18, 2009, at approximately 0734 hours, the Ledyard Police Department was notified of a vehicle off the road on Route 214 near the intersection of Lantern Hill Road. Officers from the Ledyard Police Department, as well as troopers from the State Police, responded along with Fire and EMS personnel. The vehicle was located down an embankment and the operator was fatally injured. Route 214 was closed in 1 direction for an extended period while the scene was reconstructed by members of the Ledyard Police Accident Reconstruction Team and Ledyard Police Detectives. The lone operator of the vehicle was removed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and transported to Farmington. An autopsy and identification is pending.

Update
The vehicle operator has been identified as Nathan Allan McQuany Jr., 31, of Cliff Street, Norwich. McQuany had been reported missing to the Norwich Police Department on February 13, 2009. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has ruled that McQuany died from multiple blunt force trauma due to accident. The investigation into this motor vehicle accident continues by members of the Ledyard Police Accident Reconstruction Team and Detective Division.
