Burglary at RT 117 Subway
On December 1, 2010 the management of the Ledyard Subway located on Colonel Ledyard Hwy (RT 117) notified the Ledyard Police Department that a cash box was discovered missing from the establishment. Investigation by the Ledyard Police Department found that during the overnight hours the establishment was entered by a single person wearing a ski mask, while another person waited in a vehicle. Approximately $500 in cash was taken during this crime. The Ledyard Police Department is currently tracking down several leads and urges anyone with information to contact them at 860-464-6400.
Residential Burglary
On December 9, 2010 a resident on Baldwin Hill Rd in Gales Ferry reported to the Ledyard Police Department that their home had been burglarized during the day. Numerous items, including jewelry, were taken. Investigators developed information that a silver Dodge Neon type vehicle occupied by two males was observed near the home and Ohio Avenue at approximately 1:15pm. The Ledyard Police Department and Groton Town Police Departments are working together closely to identify this vehicle. Drug Arrest From Reckless Driving Stop
On December 20, 2010 at approximately 0054 hrs the Ledyard Police Department attempted to stop a speeding vehicle on Whalehead Rd in Gales Ferry. The vehicle attempted to elude Police by turning onto several different streets. The vehicle was finally stopped on Pequot Trail in Ledyard. Once stopped, the operator was found to be in possession of Marijuana. Merrill M. Reels DOB 04/15/1985 of 16 Watson Rd in Preston was taken into custody and charged with the following:
- Possession of Marijuana
- Reckless Driving
- Speeding
- Failure to obey stop sign
Reels was processed and released on a $1,500 non-surety bond with a court date of 01/04/2011 at GA 10 New London.
Commercial Burglary Arrest

On January 20, 2011, after an investigation by the Ledyard Police Department Patrol and Detective Divisions, two individuals turned themselves in to Police when notfied that warrants for their arrest had been issued. During this investigation a large portion of the stolen cash was recovered by Police.
Christopher Rodman DOB 01/27/1990 and Brian Gay DOB 12/19/1990, both of 11 Ferryview Dr in Gales Ferry, CT, were charged with Burglary 3rd Degree and Larceny 6th Degree. They were processed and presented at GA 10 in New London.
