Car versus pole accident
On October 1, 2010 at approximately 0045hrs the Ledyard Police Department received the report of a motor vehicle accident having occured on RT 214 near Crocker Hill Rd. Officers found that a vehicle traveling west bound on RT 214 (2004 Honda operated by Charles Caldwell DOB 09/16/1980 of 50 South Broad Street in Pawcatuck, CT) had crossed the center line striking an eastbound vehicle (2007 Toyota operated by Darwin Geronimo DOB 01/03/1943 of 39 Maple Dr Groton, CT). The westbound vehicle then struck a utlity pole. The damage to the pole caused RT 214 to be closed for several hours while it was repaired.

This accident remains under investigation

Assault Arrest
On October 18, 2010 the Ledyard Police Department, with the assistance of the New London Police Department, arrested Jamelka Vega (DOB 03/25/1988) of 223 Connecticut Avenue in New London on an arrest warrant charging her with Assault 2nd Degree, Unlawful Restraint 2nd Degree, and Interferring with a 911 call. The arrest stems from an investigation into an assault which occured on October 7, 2010 at 3:20am at a residence on Shewville Rd in the Town of Ledyard. The assault resulted in serious injury to the victim for which she was treated at the Lawrence and Memorial Hospital. Vega was processed and held on a $25,000 bond. She will be arraigned at GA 10 New London on October 19, 2010.

Motor Vehicle Rollover
On October 25, 2010 at approximately 0546hrs. the Ledyard Police Department was notified of a motor vehicle over an embankment on the Stoddards Warf section of RT 214 just west of Goulart Rd. The Ledyard Police Department, along with the Ledyard Fire Company #1, Gales Ferry Fire Department, Poqoutonock Fire Department Ambulance, Ledyard Volunteer Emergency Squad, and American Ambulance paramedic responded.

Arriving responders found a 2006 Honda Civic which had left the roadway and rolled into a group of trees. The damage sustained to the vehicle required extrication to free the driver. The operator, Travis Nantz DOB 05/23/1988 of 9 Albatross Dr in Ledyard, and a passenger were transported to the WW Backus Hospital in Norwich for treatment of non life threatening injuries. RT 214 remained closed for approximately 45 minutes due to the accident, which remains under investigation.

School Bus Incident
On October 25, 2010 at approximately 2:30pm the Ledyard Police Department was contacted by the Ledyard Transport Company regarding an incident involving one of their school buses transporting students from the Ledyard Middle School. Investigation revealed that an unknown object struck the rear window of the school bus while at the intersection of Whalehead Rd and Avery Hill Ext.. The object caused the window to break, but resulted in no injury to students on the bus. This incident remains under investigation. Anyone with possible information is urged to contact Sgt. Inmate Charged with Protective Order Violation
On October 26, 2010 the Ledyard Police Department served an arrest warrant on Jeffrey Mumford (DOB 02/15/1983) who is currently incarcerated at the Bridegport Correctional Center ,at Superior Court in New London. Mumford, who is being held on numerous other criminal charges, was charged with Violation of a Protective Order. He was processed and presented in court.

Copper Piping Theft
On October 30, 2010 the Ledyard Police Department was notified of a theft of copper piping which had occured on the property of Harvard University located on Browns Crossing Rd in Gales Ferry.Investigation revealed that approximately 60 feet of 2.5 inch copper pipe had been removed from within their boathouse property.
