On January 14, 2009 at 0701hrs the Ledyard Police Department, Gales Ferry Fire Department, and the Ledyard Volunteer Ambulance Squad responded to the intersection of Kings Highway at Meadow Drive in the Gales Ferry section of Ledyard for the report of a school bus striking two pedestrians. On the arrival of emergency responders, it was found that a 14year old and 12 year old were struck resulting in minor injuries. Investigation revealed that the bus, which was stopping at the intersection stop sign, slid on ice carrying it into the two youths. Both youths were transported to the Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London for treatment of their injuries, which appeared to be minor in nature. The accident remains under investigation.
The bus which was owned by the Standard Transport of Connecticut , was operated by Amanda Krueger DOB 01/05/76 and was loaded with students.

On January 14, 2009 at 1633hrs the Ledyard Police Department received the report of a road rage incident which resulted in an individual being assaulted on RT 12 @ Dow Chemical in the Gales Ferry section of Ledyard. The victim in this case reported being followed by another motorist who was operating his vehicle in an aggressive manner. While at a traffic control signal the aggressive driver exited his vehicle, approached the victims vehicle, and assaulted the victim. The accused then fled. At 1748hrs, while police were attempting to locate the accused, another report was received of a road rage incident having occurred on RT 117 in Ledyard Center involving the same vehicle. In this incident the accused, who had been again operating his vehicle aggressively, exited his vehicle and caused a disturbance, while attempting to identify himself as a Police Officer. The victim followed the accused to a residence and notified police of his location. Officers arrived at the residence and attempted to take the individual into custody. The accused was combative and a taser device was deployed allowing Police to take him into custody without injury.
